Remaining Deck Demolition - How To Remove An In-Ground Swimming Pool

Now that the walls are out (and you've had your "backfill"inspection) it's time to start filling in the pool with the concrete deck!  This is a gratifying portion of the project because you begin to see some real progress.

The trick here is that you want to put the pieces of concrete in the pool first and then break them up in place.  This way you save the trouble of trying to pick up each little piece later.  You'll be using your machine with a thumb to reach under the edge of the slabs and then place them in the pool

We borrowed a larger size excavator for this since it came with a hydraulic jackhammer that we could later use to break up the pieces.  Of course, the bigger sized machine made the job go that much faster.  Here we are picking up the pieces and placing them in the hole:

Got the pieces in the hole?  OK, time to break them up!  You can do this with the handheld jackhammer or with a hydraulic jackhammer on the machine.  Here's our operation:

And the finished product!  Our inspector asked for pieces no larger than a bowling ball so that's what we gave him:

OK, on to: Rough Fill
