How To Remove An In-Ground Swimming Pool

Did you just buy a house that has an in-ground swimming pool and you don't care for pools?  Don't want to pay the upkeep anymore?  Have kids and are worried about their safety?  Aren't interested in harboring families of frogs any longer?  Whatever the reason, you've started thinking about filling in the pool.

Gross me out!

Want to know how to do it?  Great!  We just completed this and want to share what we've learned to help guide you through the process. Here is an outline of the steps which link to pages describing them.

  1.  Planning!  Perhaps the most important part
  2. What tools will I need?
  3. Drain the swamp/pond/pool depending on level of neglect
  4. Partial deck demolition
  5. Stair removal
  6. Access ramp to bottom of pool
  7. Pool bottom puncturing
  8. Side wall removal
  9. Remaining deck demolition
  10. Rough fill
  11. Final fill and grading
  12. Seeding (will add in the spring!)
